How to hang pictures like a Pandy pro!
How do you hang pictures on the wall?
Never done it before? Feels a bit scary? We understand. It can be hard to decide where you want them and to understand how to even go about it. And what looks best visually? You don't exactly want to drill in the wrong place. With a few simple steps, you can hang your pictures just as well as our Pandy pros.
1. Plan the placement
First and foremost, before you start hanging your pictures, decide where you want them and plan the placement. You can use newspapers or paper, as well as tape, to create templates and place them on the wall to get a feel for how it will look. Also think about the distance between the pictures and other furniture by the wall. If you're thinking of creating a gallery wall, it usually looks best to keep the same spacing between the pictures in every direction and along all edges.
2. Use the right tools
To hang your pictures safely, make sure you use the right tools. A tape measure often comes in handy; use a spirit level to make sure the pictures are straight and a drill so you can use the right type of wall hook or plug. Then there are special tools such as a laser level (which Pandy of course uses).
3. Different drill bits to consider
- Hammer drill for concrete walls
- Wood drill bit for wooden walls
- Metal drill bit for metal, plasterboard and wooden walls
4. Avoid hanging them too high
A common misconception about hanging pictures is that they should hang at eye level. But in fact, eye level varies depending on the person's height and the place where the picture will hang. A general guideline is to hang pictures at a height of about 145–152 cm from the floor to the centre of the picture.
5. Be careful with the placement
Think about where the pictures are placed and what's underneath them. Don't hang pictures above a hot radiator or an open fireplace, and avoid placing them in direct sunlight or damp areas.
6. Use the right hanging system
Use the right hanging system for the weight and type of your pictures. If you have heavy pictures, you may need a heavy-duty hook or several wall hooks to hold them in place.
In summary:
Hanging pictures may seem easy, but with these simple steps you can make sure your pictures hang in the best way and look fantastic on your wall. Just as if you'd brought in the Pandy pros for the job!
