How do you clean marble?

These days, almost every home has some part or detail made of marble. It can be anything from countertops, bathrooms and tables to chopping boards or other small interior details. What people may not always know, however, is that the material needs a bit of care to stay clean and keep its shine and appearance.

Here's how to clean your marble surface:

1. Use microfibre, a soft cloth or a sponge

Use a clean, soft cloth or sponge (not the green side of the sponge) when cleaning marble to avoid scratching the surface. Marble is softer than other stones and can be damaged by hard brushes and cloths.

2. Wipe the surface regularly with lukewarm water

To keep marble clean, it's important to wipe the surface regularly so dirt and stains don't stick. Use a clean cloth or sponge and gently wipe the surface with lukewarm water.

3. Only use mild cleaning products

It's important to use a mild cleaning product on tougher stains, because marble is a sensitive stone that can be damaged by strong chemicals and acids. Use a cleaning product designed specifically for marble or a mild, pH-neutral soap. A good option is so-called "stone soap" (stensåpa), a concentrated type of soft soap intended for stone. Make sure the stone soap you buy works for marble specifically.

4. Avoid acids and corrosive substances

Avoid cleaning products that contain acids and corrosive substances, such as vinegar, spirit vinegar, lemon juice and other acidic products. These can damage the surface of the marble and leave stains.

5. Use a protective sealant

To protect the marble surface from stains and dirt, you can use a protective sealant that seals the surface and makes it less prone to dirt and stains.

6. Always use coasters

To prevent tougher stains, we recommend always using coasters and mats under glasses, plates and anything else that could damage the marble surface.

Of course, Pandy's cleaners are trained in materials to handle sensitive surfaces like marble.
