EVERYTHING you need to know about the RUT deduction!
What on earth is the RUT deduction? How much is it? Who can use it? How does it work? There are loads of questions and thoughts about exactly this. And we get it, and we got you. To make things a little easier, we've gathered everything you need to know about the best thing in the world right here!
What is RUT?
To start from the beginning, RUT stands for "Rengöring, Underhåll och Tvätt" (cleaning, maintenance and laundry). If you as a private individual hire a company (an approved provider) for a service that falls under these categories, you can get a tax reduction on the labour cost. This tax reduction is currently 50% of the labour cost. In other words, with the RUT deduction you only pay half of the labour cost (YAY). At Pandy, RUT can be used on almost all of our services, so whether you book a handyman, carrying help, deep cleaning, move-out cleaning or moving help with us, it falls under RUT and you can get a deduction on the labour costs. Transport to and from storage and our extra services such as packing for a move are also included.
How much is the RUT deduction?
Each calendar year, as a private individual you have a maximum of SEK 75,000 that you can use. The RUT deduction is calculated per person, so if there are several adults in the same household you can combine them. 1 person = SEK 75,000, 2 people = SEK 150,000, and so on. (TIP!) The service(s) must be carried out by 31 December to count towards the current year, and on 1 January each year your allowance is topped up to SEK 75,000 again, no matter how much or how little you used the previous year.
Who can use RUT?
All private individuals who are 18 or older and live and pay tax in Sweden can use the deduction. However, you must also live, fully or partly, in the home where the service is carried out for it to be valid. And of course the service you've booked must be eligible for RUT.
How does the process work?
We at Pandy handle the entire application process with the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket), so you as a customer don't need to think about a thing! On Pandy's website you can also learn more about the RUT deduction.
Here's what it can mean: moving a studio costs from approx. SEK 3,135 and a move-out cleaning from approx. SEK 1,950 — both after the RUT deduction. See what a moving company costs and what move-out cleaning costs.
On the Swedish Tax Agency's website you can log in with BankID and see how much you have used this calendar year.
