5 ways to prepare the office for summer

Summer is a time for relaxing, but the truth is that summer can also mean a high pace at some workplaces, while others go through a quieter period. Either way, it's important to prepare the office in the best way for summer. Below are some tips to help you prepare your office efficiently.

1. Check the air conditioning & fans

In summer, temperatures can rise sharply, which can make it hard for employees to work comfortably and efficiently. Check that the air conditioning and fans work properly and that they're cleaned and maintained regularly. If your office doesn't have air conditioning, make sure to ventilate the premises properly and consider buying fans to make the working environment more pleasant.

2. Water and care for your plants

Your indoor plants may need more water than usual in the heat (but don't overwater!), and plan how they'll cope if the office will be empty for parts of the summer. Look for signs of how your plants are doing – maybe they're getting too much sun and drying out, or they're getting visits from caterpillars and aphids.

3. Clean desks & surfaces

Higher temperatures and higher humidity can also increase the risk of bacterial growth, so make sure to clean desks and other surfaces regularly to reduce the risk of spreading infection and improve the working environment. When the sun is out, you often notice how dirty your windows are. A lot of pollen can also collect on windows, which can be a health risk – so make sure to get them cleaned.

4. Wash sofas, curtains & rugs

The sofa or sofas may need a going-over during the holiday season. Curtains and rugs can also get dusty and dirty over the summer. Make sure to wash them regularly to improve air quality and reduce the risk of allergic reactions.

5. Take care of the fridge

The fridge can be a breeding ground for bacteria and bad smells in summer. Make sure to clean it regularly and throw out old food to prevent bad smells and bacterial growth. Before the summer break, you can clear out the whole fridge and give it a thorough going-over.

6. Review waste handling

In summer, rubbish and food scraps can quickly go off and cause bad smells. Be extra careful to throw food and fruit in designated bins to keep fruit flies and the like away from the desks. Make sure waste handling runs smoothly and that the rubbish is taken out regularly to avoid bad smells and bacterial growth, even when there are few people in the office.

Summary

By following these cleaning tips, you can create a clean and healthy working environment in the office over the summer, which can contribute to higher productivity and well-being among employees.
